Appellate Litigation
What distinguishes SNR Denton’s Appellate
Litigation service area from that of other firms is that most of
our appellate lawyers are also experienced trial lawyers, which
ensures that they have a firm grasp of the life of a case, from the
moment a client first meets with its counsel, through pleadings,
pre-trial proceedings, trial, and appeal.
Our philosophy is that appellate advocacy
requires a thorough understanding of the client’s business and the
industry in which it competes, as well as a practical working
knowledge of the proceedings in the trial court or administrative
agency where a case began.
Clients regularly turn to SNR Denton to take
over cases post-verdict when they are heading for the appellate
court. We also frequently continue to handle cases in which
we originally represented the litigants at the trial court
level. In both situations, our appellate litigators bring to
bear the deep experience, specialized knowledge and sound judgment
needed to overturn an adverse ruling or to preserve a trial court
victory in high stakes litigation involving the most complex
issues.
Our appellate litigators often take a leading
role in complex, multi-party appeals, and have frequently been
selected by multiple defendants or joint defense committees to
present the defendants’ case at oral argument.
Perhaps the area where our experience is most
crucial is insurance. We have handled literally hundreds of
appeals arising in the insurance context involving the insurer’s
good faith obligations, class action issues and the full range of
insurance products, including property and casualty, financial risk
and title insurance. Another area where our substantive
expertise comes into play is bankruptcy. Our firm is
regularly retained to evaluate the important strategic choices
involved in bankruptcy appeals and to address the complex
substantive issues which arise. We have particular expertise
in the media and health care sectors.
Furthermore, SNR Denton lawyers have won
landmark decisions involving technology, Internet law, computer
fraud and abuse surveillance and privacy.
